It's time to reveal my latest party!
When I was planning my son Lachlan's 2nd birthday, I KNEW I had to do something related to cars. Like a lot of two year olds, he is fully obsessed with all things with wheels. But, he especially likes Disney's Cars. Now, of course, I didn't want to do a run-of-the-mill Disney Cars party, so I wanted to brainstorm on how to turn this theme on it's nose.
My husband and I are huge Talladega Nights fans. I mean, it's clearly one of the best movies ever.
So, when I was brainstorming this idea, the name "TWO-lladega" popped into my head and I knew that was IT.
Piggy Bank Parties killed it with the invitations, as usual. They modified an existing invitation that had designed and made it customized especially for me. The car on the track is actually 3-D and
pops out from the invitation. I added the black and white checkered paper on the back to make it extra special.
For the front door, I took an idea that I saw Dina at Deliciously Darling do for her son's birthday party. I used Fourth of July tinsel from Hobby Lobby and wrapped it around a foam wreath form. I added a number two that I wrapped in duct tape and some cars and trophies to give it a special touch.
And, if you follow me, you know I always paint a huge hanging in my foyer for my babies' parties.
What else but a huge checkered number 2?
I have a very long hall in my entryway, which was perfect for making our very own racetrack. I used black tablecloth sheeting and some yellow duct tape to create the raceway.
For extra effect, I used this stadium backdrop material from Shindigz to make it look like a real raceway.
On the ceiling in my entryway, I hung bunting that I made using felt and ribbon. This is an extremely easy DIY project that is super inexpensive. I simply cut triangles from felt and glued it to grosgrain ribbon.
Since I am now working with Birthday Express on some new projects, they provided me with some fabulous racing party goodies, including this Welcome Race Fans banner and race track balloons that I used on our fireplace.
For our kitchen, I made our bar into a Pit Stop/Fill-Up. I used checkered corrugated cardboard and taped it all the way around our bar. Later on in the party, this was our pizza station. The "start your engines" signs are from Birthday Express. I simply taped them to wooden dowels and then stuck them into styrofoam to get them to stand up.
For Lachlan's birthday table, I used the corrugated cardboard again and a dollar store car cutout to make it look special!
For the main party table, I used the same crowd/stadium backdrop and wrapped it around my backdrop. Piggy Bank Parties illustrated the Twolladega sign and the large race car for me and I had it blown up and put onto foam board at Office Depot.
If you have ever seen Talledega Nights, you know that they talk about a Nacho Cheese fountain, so you know I had to have one! I got this Chevrolet decal at AutoZone and it was the perfect thing to cover the fountain's logo.
Since it was a hot June day, I wanted some fresh items on the buffet, which included stoplight skewers (watermelon, honeydew, and pineapple), and some cold pasta salad.
I used an air filter from AutoZone and a metal container from Hobby Lobby to display these items. The adorable printable table signs are from Piggy Bank Parties.
I knew I wanted to have chocolate covered Oreos for this party because my baby LOVES Oreos. And I am telling you, he was obsessed with these. I could not keep his little grubby hands off them!
Maria at Love and Sugar Kisses absolutely amazes me with her talent, and these were just beautiful.
They are almost too pretty to eat, right? Can you believe those tires?
Melanie at Mad Lily Cakery is always a pleasure to work with. She made this absolutely perfect cake for me, incorporating some of the popular Nascar logos, changing them to say Lachlan's name and nickname.
The tire is from Wal-Mart and I have no idea what it even goes to, maybe a lawnmower? It made the perfect cake stand!
Carmen at The Flair Exchange made this fabulous tassel garland for the party. It was really the perfect touch for the front of the table. She incorporated all the party colors in such an adorable way!
For the favor table, we had a racing gear station. Birthday Express provided me with some awesome party supplies for this party, including those adorable helmets and tire straw cups!
This banner absolutely blew my mind! When it was all put together, it looked like a race track. The cars are 3D and I was able to place them wherever I wanted, to create a look of them in racing formation.
The Purple Pug (Who else?) made me this fabulous banner for the front of the table. I love it so much that I am totally keeping it for his room. I mean, I could never stomach throwing it away! I keep everything she makes for my boys because they are little works of art!
For the favor boxes, I knew I wanted a car favor box. And who else but Piggy Bank Parties could make that happen? How stinking cute are these???
I filled them with Laffy Taffy and the kids went nuts over them!
These sippy cups were originally "monster truck" related, but I removed the sticker and added some checkered scrapbook paper to make them go with my theme.
I took these suckers from Birthday Express and added some checkered duct tape to the bottom for a little extra detail.
These helmets were the hit of the party!
My sweet baby was so excited when he woke up that morning (in Cars pajamas) and got this cone off the table and said "HAT!"
His favorite part of the party!
My friend Mollie has made my boys' shirts every year for their parties and she didn't disappoint this year! How cute is this?
After cake, there was kiddie pool and slip and slide!
And, of course, photo ops!
Hope you enjoyed the Two-lladega party!See you at the next race!
