I am sure you know some woman in your life, be it your mother, sister, cousin, aunt, or whomever, who seems like a superhero to you! Women really are doing it all these days and that is the inspiration behind my latest party.
Candace is a previous client who you might remember threw the "Boy Meets World" Baby Shower last spring. When she emailed me a few months ago about doing a party for her cousin's 40th birthday, I loved her idea of celebrating how "super" she is to all those around her.
Candace wanted classic superhero colors with a glamorous twist to fete Super Demetri on her big day!
We started with this adorable invitation by Lane 34 Party. I loved the simple graphic design that still looked "adult" enough for a 40th birthday.
I think Candace hit the nail on the head when she said that the party was like superhero meets Sex and the City.
I really focused on using a cityscape backdrop, incorporating the glamorous feel of a big city.
+Hobby Lobby has some GREAT glittered fabric right now that comes in 8x11 sheets. It is in the section with the felt pieces. I used it all over the party to add some shimmer, starting with this sign that I made to welcome guests to the party. The adorable printable sign is from Sour Punch Studio. They did all the printables for the party and their collection is adorable! It comes in more girly colors too!
The fabulous backdrop is from +Shindigz. It was fully customizable, so I did a feminine font on top, with a bolder font for the bottom.
Candace really wanted to incorporate all the roles that Super D plays in the lives of people around her, so I had the fabulous Jeanette at J At Your Service design and create these signs that I put into every part of the party. They are all a little different and they said "Super Mom," "Super Cousin," "Super Sister," "Super Demetri," and "Super Wife."
The little buildings are acrylic containers that I had had forever. I put some black foam pieces on with double stick tape to create "windows."
+Birthday Express really hooked me up on this party! They have a huge line of Superhero Comic Book party supplies and I had to have these Whirly Pops with POW stickers!
In addition, they have mini candy bar wrapper stickers! They are so easy to use because they are already adhesive!
I made this dessert stand with some cups and plates that I got over the summer at Target.
One of Super D's favorite candies is Peppermint Patties, so I had to do those!
I have been on a sequined letter kick lately, so I had to do another one for this party! This time, I used red, gold, and blue pailettes to make it really feminine and flashy!
Aren't these napkins from +Birthday Express adorable? What I love about them is that they are completely versatile for a boy or a girl party!
Super D's husband arranged the cake and I knew I wanted to do some fondant decor on it. So, I told Mr. Super D to just get a white cake from his baker and we dressed it up with all these adorable pieces from Maria at Love and Sugar Kisses. She really knocked it out on the Super D plaque on the front!
We almost had a party-fail caketastrophe that day. I hadn't planned to display it diagonally, but it got damaged on the car-ride to the party. Men!
I think we cleverly hid that from the guests!
I displayed the cake on a small table that I use all the time. To make it more glamorous, I added sequined fringe trim and some red and blue star sticker tape.
These cupcake stands are from +Oriental Trading and I love them so much. I like how they blend into the backdrop, as if they are just a 3-D extension of the city.
I used them to display the favors, which were cherry and banana candied popcorn.
+Birthday Express custom made those Super D labels for me to attach to their blue treat boxes. I love how they turned out!
Another awesome item that +Birthday Express sent along was this phone booth! This is Super D's cute-as-a-button son modeling it for me!
I knew it would be a huge hit with the kids!
Here is Miss Super Demetri herself, posing in the booth!
The guest tables and food were displayed outside. Since I set up the party in the morning, I didn't stay for the savory food to be cooked, but I wanted to dress up that area, so I used this printable banner from Sour Punch Studios, as well as a vinyl cutout from +Birthday Express. I simply put the vinyl cutout on a large piece of cardboard (I hoard cardboard!) and then cut around it with an Xacto knife to make it stand on its own.
You can also customize this banner at +Birthday Express too!
For the guest tables and for extra decoration, I created these little centerpieces with containers from the Dollar Store, along with some Christmas decorations from +Hobby Lobby and Jeannette's signs. I love how they turned out.
Candace and I agreed that Foxy Brown was definitely a superhero.
One of my favorite parts of the party was something I had nothing to do with! Candace and her mom set up their own photobooth in the garage! They took some of the vinyl wall hangings that I added to cardboard and put them up against a wall hanging with a Superhero costume. It made for some super cute pictures!
Super D and her cute family of boys!
Hope you enjoyed Super D's 40th!
Special thanks to all my vendors, but particularly +Birthday Express who sent so much amazing stuff!
