{Real Parties} Trusten's 1st Birthday

This party was truly a pleasure to help with.
Let me introduce you to Trusten.
Trusten is the nephew of one of my closest girlfriends.
This sweet angel was born with a heart condition called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, or HLHS. He has already had two open heart surgeries, the first of which when he was only 13 days old.
He needs a new heart. Now.

Can you imagine how tough this year must have been for his parents? Can you imagine trying to plan a birthday party for your child, all the while he has been in and out of the hospital?
Well, that's where we came in.
And by "we" I mean a small army of party vendors and beautiful people who donated their time and their products to help this family celebrate Trusten's first year in the way that it should be celebrated.
I put out a few feelers on  Facebook, asking people to read about Trusten and if they felt compelled to donate, to please contact me. And, I was not even prepared for the amazing amount of people who offered their services!

Trusten loves Mickey Mouse. His mom says that it's the one thing in the hospital that keeps his spirits up.
Well. Mickey Mouse it is!
One of my closest girlfriends, Meredith, agreed to style this party. She is an extremely talented party stylist, who works in Arkansas, where this party was held. You can see some of her other work here:
This is Trusten's family. Aren't they adorable, all decked out in their Mickey Mouse gear?
The Purple Pug donated two different pieces for the party. I love and adore this banner she did for him!
Meredith used it perfectly as the focus of the backdrop, along with these plastic tablecloths that she hung behind the table for a burst of color!
The fabric bunting on the table was made by Pink Elephants and Lemonade. It's so cute!
Trusten's adorable cake was arranged by Icing Smiles. Icing Smiles is a non-profit that provides cakes to children who are ill, or hospitalized. They contact bakers that are local to the children and then call them their "Sugar Angels." You should follow their work. It's an amazing organization!
Their Sugar Angel in this case was Kate's Cupcakes. Kate is located in Little Rock, Arkansas and I think she did a bang-up job on this cake!
Trusten's party was held at the I Can! Arts and Resource Center. In lieu of gifts, the family asked that donations be made to I Can! They will be put toward the construction of a series of wheelchair accessible tree houses forming a fun entrance to the back side of the center. The tree house will be named after Trusten, providing a future gift that he and others will be able to enjoy!

These adorable Mickey Mouse Cake pops were donated by Autumn Lynn's Chocolate Sins. Autumn is my very favorite cake pop designer and she always does beautiful work.
The sparkle sticks were donated by Made By a Princess. Don't they make the cake pops look so great?

Maylene from Malu Boutiques also donated these cute little favor bags. She had a brand new baby, and somehow she found time to make these for Trusten!

The lovely Michelle at I Do Invitations by Michelle made this fabric bunting, which Meredith used as a photo backdrop.

She also made this AMAZING signpost! How stinking cute is this??
I cannot believe she made this!

My friends at Birthday Express really blew our minds with the HUGE box of amazing Mickey Mouse clubhouse goodies!  They are really a fabulous company.

The wonderful ladies at Party on Purpose made some beautiful paper products for this party, including this banner. Check them out--they donate a portion of all their sales to party packages for kids in need.
I love what Meredith did with these centerpiece picks. She put them into cute cups and buckets to coordinate with the theme.

How great is this personalized sign by Gemini Celebrations? It will be perfect for his room!

I love how Meredith combined several of the vendors' donations by using Party on Purpose's favor tags with Birthday Express Favor boxes, and scrapbook paper.

Look how precious this baby is!
Could his outfit be any cuter??

Huge thanks to everyone who made this day special for the Hamilton Family. I know they appreciate it more than you can imagine.

A few days after this wonderful party, Trusten was readmitted to the hospital with shortness of breath. It seems his little heart is just not going to last much longer.
Trusten is currently at Arkansas Children's Hospital, awaiting a heart transplant. It is almost too much to bear to think about another family having to lose a sweet baby, so that this sweet baby can have a chance at a life.
I encourage you to follow his story on Facebook and to pray for this family.
Although I do not know them personally, they are special to me because of my friend and because my heart goes out to babies with special needs and with medical conditions, because I have been there myself.

  2. LOVE. I continue to pray for Trusten daily and follow his story. What a sweet little boy. Those cake pops are amazing! Love the banners Kristy made, as always. Glad I could help be a very small part. My awesome hubby builds/paints all of our signs - I just make the personalized sticker part :) Amazing job, ladies!! XOXO

  3. Beautiful + extraordinary little boy. Honored to have been a tiny part in such a special celebration. <3

  4. I am really thankful to you for providing this unique information. Please keep sharing more and more information......

  5. Hey, Trusten is looking very cute in the picture. It is really a sad news that HLHS problem. It is really good that you all had planned for a birthday party for the little kid. Kids love different characters such as Mickey Mouse, spiderman, batman, Minnie etc. It was a well organized party and it has given happiness to the family. I will definitely pray for trusten. I have also planned for a party last year when I found a little child who was having a hole in his heart. He was my neighbour’s son and I meet them when we shifted to our new hose in Dublin, Ireland. I organized a small party for Joy and invited little kids, so that he can feel happy. I am happy that now after surgery Joy is out of danger. His parent’s thanked me a lot for the party I had planned for their kid and with our wishes Joy surgery was successful. I baked a cake for him by myself and apart from this I also planned for some kids games for the party. Joy and other kids were very happy playing with the character balloons that I had purchased from postalflowers online. Kid’s love balloons and as Joy also loves Mickey, so I gifted him a lot of balloons of Mickey, Bob the builder and many more characters.
