DIY Glittered Cooler with Rubbermaid and Evite

Who is ready for summer?
I'm getting ready for all my summer entertaining by working on a really cute new DIY project!
Have you ever wished your cooler had a little bit more style?
Well, let me help you make that happen.....with glitter.
\
+The Home Depot  is running an AWESOME promo right now on Rubbermaid products!
This past weekend, I went to Home Depot to pick up this 45 QT cooler for $29.97 and ALSO get a 10 QT cooler FOR FREE. I mean, who doesn't love free? The smaller cooler comes inside the large one.

This coming weekend, we are having a bunch of friends over for our annual Memorial Day shrimp boil. So, I wanted to do something patriotic with my new cooler!
One of my favorite things about summer is bomb pops. They just scream "summer" AND they are patriotic!

This is a super easy DIY that anyone could do with a little elbow grease and patience!
Start out with your cooler. It already comes in blue, so you really only have to paint the red and the white.
Using painter's tape, tape off your stripes and be sure to cover your handles, spout, and top.

I did the red stripe first, let it dry overnight and then did the white the next morning.
Most of the high-quality spray paint will adhere to plastic, but if you want to do a primer, it's not a bad idea.
After I had my stripes painted, I did the messy part...the glitter.
I used outdoor Mod Podge for durability, a foam roller, and simple loose glitter in red, white, and blue for the corresponding stripes. All these items can be purchased at your local craft store.

I used a really large Rubbermaid tub (for wrapping paper) to catch my glitter. Be prepared, this is messy, but it's worth it in the end! I recommend doing it outside if possible, it just happened to be raining all weekend at my house!

You simply roll the Mod Podge on with the foam roller, a section at a time. I did the white first, but in hindsight, you should probably do the white last, since all the other glitter shows up on the white!

Then simply sprinkle the glitter on while the Mod Podge is still wet.
You can do your top and bottom stripes the same day because you can tape off the middle, but wait and let those dry overnight before moving on to your middle stripe.
Then, I recommend letting the entire thing dry for 24 hours before use.

And, you've got a GORGEOUS glittered cooler!
It's perfect for Memorial Day, Independence Day, and really the entire summer!

It would be a really fun spin to do your favorite team colors too!
If you want extra durability, you can always do a final coat of spray gloss sealer too.
