Are you ready for all those upcoming bowl games? The Superbowl is right around the corner! Basketball season is also in full effect and before we know it, it will be March Madness. In our house, we love Football, basketball, and soccer. And we love parties! So, today I am going to show you how to do an old school pep rally themed party that would be great for any sports-themed party you might be planning in the next few months! (Or really any time of the year!) And to help me out with the food, I am using Hormel Pepperoni for two very different, and very delicious pepperoni recipe ideas!
When I was in college, my husband and I met at a restaurant where we were both waiting tables. One of my favorite menu items at that restaurant was something they called a "pasta pie." It is a pasta, baked into a serving dish with cheese and pepperonis on top. I recreate it for my family all the time because it is so easy and so delicious. It's perfect for the winter because it's warm and delicious right out of oven, but also stays pretty hot on a buffet because of the cheese topping insulating the pasta. And really, is there anything more delicious than a perfectly cooked pepperoni? YUM.
Here's what you will need:
Pepperoni Pasta Pie
1/2 lb spicy breakfast sausage or Spicy Italian Sausage
10 oz penne (or any other large) pasta
1/2 cup diced red onion
1/2 green bell pepper, diced
1 Jar of your favorite pasta sauce
3-4 cups mozzarella cheese
1 pillow pack Hormel Pepperoni (you will not use the entire pack)
Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add pasta. While the pasta is cooking, start browning the sausage. When it is browned, drain it on paper towels on the side.
Using some of the grease from the sausage, cook your diced onion and green pepper until the onions are translucent.
Once those are done, add back the sausage and pour in the pasta sauce.
Keep warm until the pasta is cooked and drained.
Once the pasta is drained, add it back into the large pot and cover it with the sauce mixture. Stir to combine.
Line 6-8 large ramekins on a cookie sheet. Add the pasta mixture to each.
Top each with generous amount of mozzarella and then add your pepperoni.
Cook at 400 for around 15 minutes until the pepperoni is browned and the cheese is melted.
Another great appetizer at your sports parties is a Pepperoni Dip! It's SO simple!
6oz cream cheese, softened
1 pillow pack Hormel Pepperoni
1/2 cup grated Parmesan
1/2 tsp Italian Seasoning
Parsley for Garnish
Heavy Cream or Milk for thinning
Puree the entire package of pepperoni until it is very small. Add the cream cheese, Italian Seasoning, and Parmesan and mix. If if it too thick, add some cream or milk to thin the consistency.
Serve with breadsticks and parsley for garnish.
Now let's put our party together! Sports parties are always great opportunities to keep it casual.
So, I set this party up on a small buffet in my kitchen, close to my living room and television so that guests can grab and go, or even graze at the table while still being able to watch TV.
As I said, I was inspired by the Pep Squad for this party and wanted to keep with the cheerleader theme by using pom poms as my inspiration.
For the backdrop, I used silver fringed foil that you can get at any party store. I cut it into strips and pinned it to my backdrop. I made this cute banner with my Silhouette using glitter card stock. I used a cute varsity font that calls back to cheerleader uniforms and letter jackets.
I displayed the pepperoni dip in a cute little mini trifle dish with breadsticks. A little parsley dresses it up too!
For a little sweet bite, I got these adorable red powdered donut holes at my grocery store bakery.
I put them on a cute glitter stick that you can get at any craft store.
For my cute little Pepperoni Pasta Pies, I displayed them on this little red table that I picked up at an antique store. I added a disposable spoon for easy clean-up. But, I had to kick the spoons up a notch, so I added this metal detail to them using metallic ribbon and some hot glue.
I hope this party peps you up for all those upcoming sports parties!
It's a total score!
