Who doesn't love Ghostbusters®? No ONE! We just watched the new Ghostbusters® this past week when it came out Blu-Ray and DVD in stores and Walmart on October 11th because we didn't get a chance to see it in theaters. My 5 year old just watched the original movie pretty recently and he's already a big fan!
Or, if you like to stream movies, you can watch it on VUDU.
With Halloween approaching, it's a great time to start the time-honored tradition of BOO'ing of your neighbors! And what's better than a Ghostbusters® themed BOO kit? It's the perfect theme! We have the best neighbors and since our kiddos are the best of friends and the same ages, we thought they would love to be BOO'ed!
We started preparing for our BOO Kit party by heading to Walmart to pick up all the supplies we needed to make our BOO kit extra awesome!
BOO'ing someone is SO EASY! It's only three steps!
1. Make a BOO Kit
2. Secretly Deliver It
3. BOO It Forward!
The seasonal aisle always has the best goodies for Halloween! For the chocolate lovers, we picked up some Snickers® Fun Size, M&Ms® Fun Size, and Twix® Fun Size. And then, for our candy lovers, we chose Skittles® Original Fun Size, Starburst® Original Fun Size, and Life Savers® Fun Size. And since we were making this kit for our neighbors, we also grabbed some American Greetings® treat bags for a special receipe and some stickers for the kids.
Since we decided on a Ghostbusters® theme, we had to make our BOO Kit look like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, right?
To make our BOO Kit, we started with simple plastic treat bucket.
We spray painted him white using some spray paint specifically for plastic.
To add our details, we used craft felt, hot glue, and scissors. This is a really inexpensive way to customize your BOO Kit.
We started by making his collar. We cut a piece of blue felt into the shape of the collar and a small strip of white felt for the details.
Then we added his red tie.
Two pieces of white felt with black pupils for the eyes (you could also use googly eyes).
Then we added two simple eyebrows.
And Stay Puft Man has to have a hat, so we made him one of those too.
Isn't he so cute?
After our BOO Kit was created, we moved on to cooking up a yummy treat!
We made my famous candy bar fudge! You can customize this fudge with any candy bar topping, but we used Snickers® Fun Size for our topping. Twix® Fun Size would be delicious too!
This is SUCH an easy recipe! It's modified from one of my grandmother's old recipes.
Snickers® Fun Size Candy Bar Fudge
3 cups white sugar
3/4 cup butter
2/3 cup Carnation evaporated milk
1 (12oz) package Nestle Tollhouse semi sweet chocolate chips
1 (7oz) jar marshmallow cream
1 tsp vanilla extract
Crushed or Sliced Snickers® Fun Sized Candy Bars for topping
1. Grease a 9x13. I used a disposable aluminum steamtable pan. It's easier to remove the fudge and the clean-up is a breeze!
2. Mix sugar, butter, an Carnation evaporated milk in a large, heavy saucepan over medium heat, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Bring mixture to a full boil for 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
3. Remove from heart and stir in chocolate chips until melted and combined. Stir in the marshmallow cream and vanilla. Transfer fudge to the pan.
4. While the fudge is still very warm, chop up your favorite candy bar and add to the top. Push the pieces down into the warm fudge a little bit to help them sink in.
5. Let cool and cut into squares. I put mine in the fridge sometimes to speed up the process.
After our fudge had time to dry, it was ready to party!
I loved setting up this fun BOO Kit Party! Ghostbusters® has so much fun inspiration!
I started my backdrop with a simple cardboard cityscape that I cut out of a big box and spray painted black.
I added this red foam wreath at the top. I made it look like a "No" sign with red duct tape.
On the front of the table, I used a simple black tablecloth and then added a lime green layer of slime using a plastic tablecloth that I cut into a slime shape. How fun, right?
I cut this banner using my die cut machine and the Ghostbusters® font.
Our Stay Puft Marshmallow Man BOO Kit was definitely the centerpiece of the party! I displayed him on a simple white cake stand.
We added a bunch of FUN stuff into our kit including all the yummy candies and chocolates that we picked up at Walmart. We also used our American Greetings® bags to include some of the Candy Bar Fudge. We added some stickers for the kids and also a big Ghostbusters® decal.
The final touch was the free printable card!
You can download it at BooItForward.com. There are several different cute options!
We also served some other cute treats at our Ghostbusters® themed party like "slime cups" that we customized with glitter toppers.
And also fun red and white cupcakes that I customized into Ghostbusters® cupcakes using the Life Savers® Gummies Fun Size. I used one of the candies as the circle, and then cut another of the candies into half and used that as the "no" part of the logo.
We displayed all our candies and chocolates in apothecary jars so that the guests can reach in a grab things to put into the BOO Kit.
The final touch was the Candy Bar Fudge, which we cut into chunks to add into the BOO treat bags.
After the party, we dropped the cute Stay Puft Marshmallow Man BOO Kit on the porch for our neighbors to enjoy! We got a fun text a little later telling us how much they enjoyed it!
Who are you going to BOO this year?
Think outside the box and treat someone special! Putting in the Blu-Ray or DVD of Ghostbusters® would be a great addition to this BOO Kit!
Or, if you want to send a BOO Kit to someone far away, just go to Walmart.com to make your own BOO Kit online!
This would be such a fun idea for hospitalized kids, far away relatives, police men, firefighters, or teachers!
